Max Yawney and Dieter Kuhn

Artist Full Name: Max Yawney and Dieter Kuhn
Based Out Of: Brooklyn, NY and Burlington, VT
Bio:
Upside_vs_Downside is a collaborative project in which Max Yawney designs the work and Dieter Kuhn paints the post and beam elements. This piece presents two disparate components that together form an open-ended, poetic situation for the viewer—more a "situation" than a "representation." Drawing parallels to poetry, music, and rock gardens, the elements are carefully selected and placed to temper one another and create an aesthetic experience rooted in composition and juxtaposition, rather than in literal meaning. These works are not meant to represent something outside themselves, but instead engage the viewer through their presence and placement.
