Artist: George Stadnik

Bio:
George Stadnik is a light artist and composer whose practice centers on Lumia—the composition of light and time through optically reactive objects, installations, performances, and recorded works. Since the 1970s, his evolving practice has explored the expressive possibilities of light, beginning with a room-sized camera obscura for creating Lumiagraphs and later developing custom projection instruments for live visual performances.

From 1998 to 2013, Stadnik created digital simulations of Lumia instruments using commercial software. Since 2014, his work has focused on natural light and nonlinear methods of generating moving imagery. His ambient Lumia constructs combine materials such as reflective films, lenses, painted imagery, and transparent surfaces to create ever-changing reflections, refractions, color, and depth illusions. By engaging with the viewer's movement and perception, his work invites audiences to project their own visions and interpretations onto the experience.
