Bio:
Fredda Merzon began her sculpture career in 2005 by creating wire-constructed metal supports for plants in her garden. In 2007, at the age of 65, she began making botanically inspired sculptures from recycled metal and learned to weld to create more permanent works, eventually expanding into abstract forms. A largely self-taught artist, her formal training includes one semester of Intermediate Sculpture at SUNY Albany and three welding workshops. Her work celebrates the beauty and potential of repurposed materials, transforming discarded metal into imaginative sculptures that invite curiosity and delight. Since then, she has exhibited in more than 20 solo and group exhibitions throughout New York and Maine and has served as a keynote speaker on incorporating art into the garden.
