Bruce Hasse
Artist Full Name:
Bruce Hasse
Based Out Of:
Charlotte, Vermont
Bio:
Bruce Hasse has been creating sculpture and assemblage since 2017. This will be his fourth year exhibiting at the North Bennington Outdoor Sculpture Show, following several years of suspended, mobile-style works. His current sculpture represents a shift toward more substantial, ground-mounted forms.
Hasse’s assemblage practice is rooted in the discovery and transformation of found materials. Many components of his work come from his own property or from the shores of Lake Champlain. Objects with history and character often serve as the catalyst for his creative process, allowing the materials themselves to guide the development of each piece.
For For The Birds, the central element is a large wheel believed to have once served as a mooring anchor, later encrusted with concrete and zebra mussels before being moved inland by shifting ice and revealed during an exceptionally low lake level. The sculpture brings together collected elements into a new narrative, blending memory, place, and material history.
