David (Dave) M. Schweiger is a retired university business school professor who lives on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Dave began painting 23 years ago and has been in love with it ever since then. He focuses on architecture and landscapes and anything else that look like fun to paint. All of his paintings have been inspired by his experiences traveling throughout the seven continents. He owes a debt of gratitude to his high school drafting teacher who taught him how to draw and to those who began painting later in life and the spirit they exuded. To quote one, Winston Churchill in his monograph “Painting as a Pastime”,
We must not be too ambitious. We cannot aspire to masterpieces. We may content ourselves with a joy ride in a paint-box. And Audacity is the only ticket.
He is also grateful to Jerry Tuckman, his cousin, who had the vision to integrate steel sculpture and acrylic painting. The collaboration was a labor of love, and we hope that you enjoy experiencing it as much as we did in creating it.
Gerald M. (Jerry) Tuckman is a resident of both Brookline and the Berkshires (Otis) MA where he does his sculpture work. A long-time poet who first published poetry and prose in the 1986 Fathers Book:Shared Experiences that was followed by appearing as featured poet in 1987’s A Poetry Mag.In 2014 he wrote 14 poems, including 7 haiku, to accompany the Colt Gallery/Whitney exhibit Autumn Alchemy (mixed media) and read them at the opening reception. From 2022 to today he has written numerous poems to complement sculptures, including those at the Mount and NBOSS, works of fine art and works of music and dance. This will be his fourth year with at least one sculpture at NBOSS. He owes a continuing debt of gratitude to Master Steel Sculptor, Peter Barrett, friend and mentor, without whose help this work would have not been possible. He also appreciates the opportunity to once again collaborate with fine artist, David Schweiger, his cousin, who painted the two-sided painting contained within this sculpture. Jerry is a full member of the New England Sculpture Association. Misurina Rising was inspired by Lake Misurina in the Dolomite Mountains of Italy.
