Elizabeth Keithline
Artist Full Name: Elizabeth Keithline
Based Out Of: Woodstock, NY
Bio:
Elizabeth Keithline’s work investigates human self-extension and systemic relationships—architecture, technology, vehicles, and the built environment—especially as they intersect with the natural world. Over thirty years ago, she pioneered a distinctive wire weaving technique that forms “shadow forms” by wrapping wire around large objects, then removing or burning away the originals to leave a sculptural memory. Her works include abstract forms, a post and beam house, a 1969 Dodge Charger, and a piano and bench. Her sculpture Earthy was created through a meditative process of collecting natural materials and filling modular wire forms over two weeks of kneeling on the ground.
Keithline has exhibited extensively across the U.S., with solo shows at ChaShaMa (NYC), Governors Island (NY), the Peabody Essex Museum, Danforth Museum, Newport Art Museum, Jane Street Art Center, the Waiting Room (New Orleans), Blue Star Contemporary (San Antonio), ArtPrize (Grand Rapids), Real Art Ways (Hartford), and UMass Amherst. Her work has been reviewed in The New York Times, Sculpture Magazine, Hyperallergic, The Boston Globe, and Fiberarts.
