Bio:
Ed Smith is a member of the National Academy, a Guggenheim Fellow in Sculpture and Drawing, and a member of the Royal British Society of Sculptors. His work is represented in major public and private collections throughout the United States and abroad, including the British Museum, the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Yale University, the Hood Museum, the Davis Museum, and the National Academy Museum.
Over the course of his career, Smith has presented more than 80 solo exhibitions and participated in countless group exhibitions at institutions including the Queens Museum, Brooklyn Museum, the Royal Scottish Academy, the Albright-Knox Museum, the Fleming Museum, and the Arkell Museum. His work has been reviewed in publications such as The New York Times, Sculpture Magazine, Art News, Art New England, and many others. Castings of his hands are included in the American Artist Hand Archive alongside artists including Jasper Johns, Maya Lin, Robert Indiana, Eric Fischl, Martin Puryear, and William Tucker.
Smith's work is primarily concerned with the mythic and heroic aspects of the artist and the human condition.
