Albert Gilewicz

Artist Full Name:
Albert Gilewicz

Based Out Of:
Amherst, New York

Bio:
Albert Gilewicz believes art is a universal means of sharing emotions, imagination, ideas, and perspectives. His work is rooted in the belief that art should extend beyond galleries and urban centers, creating meaningful connections with diverse audiences through storytelling and a strong sense of place.

Originally trained as a civil engineer at Union College, Gilewicz developed his artistic practice through elective art courses that fostered his ability to transform two-dimensional concepts into three-dimensional sculpture. Since 1992, he has exhibited extensively at shows, festivals, national exhibitions, and artist residencies throughout the eastern United States.

His sculptures invite viewers to construct their own narratives and become active participants in the work. Blending engineering, craftsmanship, and artistic expression, Gilewicz creates pieces that encourage reflection on place, identity, and the relationship between people and the natural world. He advocates for the integration of art into STEM education, believing that STEAM better reflects the importance of creativity in innovation.
