Bio:
Michelle Post is a self-taught painter, sculptor, and printmaker whose creative journey began in early childhood. Her practice has been shaped through apprenticeships with influential artists and immersion in artist communities. In 1976, Post studied wood engraving with Stefan Martin in Roosevelt, NJ—an artist enclave founded under the New Deal and home to figures like Ben Shahn and Jacob Landau. Her artistic evolution continued at the Johnson Atelier Technical Institute of Sculpture in Hamilton, NJ, where sculpture became her central focus. A pivotal moment came in 2002 when she began carving Styrofoam, leading to a bold new direction in her sculptural practice. Her acclaimed ten-figure piece The Oligarchs is permanently installed at Grounds For Sculpture.
